Field set for Target World Challenge

Three of this year’s major champions and six of the top 10 players in the world highlight the 16-player field at the Target World Challenge, Tiger Woods announced Monday.

The tournament will be held Dec. 13-16 at Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, Calif. The 16 players, who have won 175 PGA Tour titles, will compete for a $5.75 million purse. The $1.35 million winner’s check is more than any major and second only to The Players on the PGA Tour this year. Last place will earn $170,000.

Four past champions will also be in the field – Woods (2001, ‘04, ‘06), Davis Love III (2000, ‘03), Luke Donald (2005) and Padraig Harrington (2002). Steve Stricker, Rory Sabbatini, Justin Rose, Zach Johnson and Niclas Fasth will be making their tournament debuts.

The top 12 players in the field gained entry based on their world ranking. Paul Casey, Mark Calcavecchia, Love III and Fred Couples received special exemptions.
