Alec and Matt Ceravolo, twins from Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., have verbally committed to SMU. The Ceravolos also took unofficial visits to Texas, UNLV and Florida.
Matt, No. 10 in Golfweek’s Junior Rankings for the class of 2011, had three top-10 finishes in AJGA events last year, and also won the 2010 Terra Cotta Invitational. Alec, No. 108 in the class of 2011, finished in the top 10 twice in Florida Junior Tour events in 2008-09, and has three career top-20s in AJGA events.
The Ceravolos first visited SMU – where their father, Joe, was the point guard on the basketball team – as ninth-graders. Matt said it’s a school where he’ll be able to play on the team as a freshman and maybe be the “big guy” eventually.
“I went out there and kind of fell in love with the school, the coaches, the facilities,” he said.
Alec also said the school has been in the back of his mind since that first visit, and was especially struck by the strength of the team and how well all the players work together.
“We really like the school, both coaches are great, and I think that’s what you need,” Alec said. “They’re an actual true team.”
