Augusta St. breaks record in home victory

Administaff ASU Invitational (Final)

In the shadow of Augusta National Golf Club, Augusta State dominated the Administaff ASU Invitational on Sunday, breaking the 36-hole record along the way.

ASU, No. 3 in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings, topped a field that included five of the country’s top 20 teams, including No. 8 Illinois, No. 14 Clemson and No. 17 South Carolina.

The Jaguars posted a 47-under 817 at Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Ga., 15 strokes lower than the second-place Gamecocks.

Forest Hills is located less than 10 miles from Augusta National.

The Jags’ 36-hole total of 32-under 544 broke their previous tournament record of 25 under, set in 2009.

Led by junior Henrik Norlander, who won the individual title at 15-under 201, five other Jaguars posted top-20 finishes.

Norlander, ranked No. 11, shot a final-round 65 Sunday to top teammate Patrick Reed (203). Reed’s second-round 67 included a stretch of five consecutive birdies from Nos. 11-15.

Illinois junior Scott Langley, No. 14 in Golfweek’s rankings, tied for 24th at 3-under 213.
