Wood’s 65 ties course record at Wales Open

Wales Open (Rd. 1)

NEWPORT, Wales – Chris Wood led the Wales Open after shooting a record-tying 6-under 65 over the Ryder Cup course at Celtic Manor on Thursday.

The 22-year-old Wood had six birdies to equal the lowest score on the Celtic Manor course, which will host the Ryder Cup at the start of October.

Fellow Englishman Simon Dyson shot a 65 last year but the layout of the course has been considerably toughened at the request of Europe captain Colin Montgomerie.

Local favorite Bradley Dredge was a stroke back, while Edoardo Molinari of Italy, Richard McEvoy of England and Raphael Jacquelin of France each shot a 67.
