Virginia won its second straight tournament of the fall season Sunday, cruising to a four-shot victory at the Bank of Tennessee at The Ridges. It’s the first time in three years the Cavaliers have won multiple tournaments in a season.
The Cavaliers, ranked No. 28 in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings, finished with an 11-under 853 total. After a 9-over 297 in Round 1, Virginia went 20 under in the final 36 holes. First-round leader Kent State (No. 35) was second at 7-under 857 while Chattanooga (No. 72) was third at even-par 864. Wake Forest (No. 24) finished fourth at 3-over 867.
Freshman Ben Rusch led Virginia with a T-2 finish at 6-under 210 with Michigan’s Joey Garber. Mackenzie Hughes of Kent State ran away with the individual title at 13-under 203. Hughes capped the tournament with rounds of 66-65.
Hughes’ teammate John Hahn was in a four-way tie for fourth at 5-under 211 with Chattanooga’s Stephan Jaeger, Missouri’s Jace Long and Tennessee’s Darren Renwick.
