KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – The Florida men’s team shot a 3-over 291 in the final round Tuesday to finish off an 11-stroke victory over Alabama-Birmingham at The Invitational at the Ocean Course. The Gators, who finished at 6-under 958, took control of the tournament with a 12-under 276 in Monday’s second round, the low round of the event by 10 shots.
South Florida finished third at 6-over 870, one shot behind UAB and one shot ahead of fourth-place Maryland.
Florida, which entered the event at No. 64 in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings after finishing No. 6 last season, was led by Tyler McCumber, who finished second individually at 5-under 211. McCumber, son of former PGA Tour and Champions Tour player Mark McCumber, was two shots back of medalist Sam Love of UAB. Two other Florida players finished in the top 10: T.J. Vogel (T-3) and Tommy Mou (T-7).
The Gators had finished seventh at Olympia Fields and Inverness in their first two events of the fall season.
