McDowell cites ankle injury in Valero Texas Open WD

Graeme McDowell withdrew from the Valero Texas Open after nine holes, citing a left ankle injury.

McDowell, the Northern Irishman, told PGA Tour officials that his ankle had been giving him trouble for the past few weeks. McDowell is No. 23 in the Official World Golf Ranking.

The opening nine holes at TPC San Antonio was not pretty for McDowell, but tough scoring conditions – including wind gusts of more than 30 mph – also hurt several other players in the field. McDowell bogeyed Nos. 11, 13, 15, 16 and 18 to turn in 5-over 41.
