LSU’s Pierce has surgery to repair neck fracture

Brandon Pierce, the LSU sophomore who went 2-0-1 for the national champion Tigers in match play at the NCAA Championship, underwent successful surgery Saturday afternoon to repair a fracture in his neck.

Pierce injured his neck while swimming Thursday, a day after LSU defeated USC, 4-1, in the final match at The Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, Fla. He is expected to make a full recovery, according to the school website.

Pierce, who will be a junior this fall, missed seven months last year because of a stress fracture in his L-5 vertebrae.
