Quayle, Kocher top Palmetto Amateur leaderboard with 65

Australian Anthony Quayle is in the mix with a bunch of players from the Southeast after one round of the Palmetto Amateur in Aiken, S.C. Quayle, from the Gold Coast, opened with a 5-under 65 at the Palmetto Golf Club and is tied for first with David Kocher of Charlotte, N.C.

Quayle eagled the par-3 10th and added three other birdies and a bogey on Wednesday. Kocher opened with three consecutive birdies, then made one more at No. 9 to turn in 30. His only bogey of the day came at No. 16.

Austin Langdale, a Clemson sophomore from Townville, S.C., tied teammate Billy Kennerly with 66. Florida’s J.D. Tomlinson joined that group.

Mid-amateur Todd White is also in the mix, in solo sixth after a 3-under 67. White won the inaugural U.S. Amateur Four-Ball earlier this spring with fellow former Walker Cupper Nathan Smith. White failed to make it through U.S. Open Sectional Qualifying on Monday.
