Trey Mullinax won two national titles as a collegiate player at Alabama. Now, he owns a title on the Tour.

Mullinax, 23, won the Rex Hospital Open on Sunday by two shots over Brady Schnell. Mullinax shot 3-under 68 in the final round to finish at 14-under 270. Schnell, the 54-hole leader, needed a birdie on the final hole to force a playoff, but instead made bogey to finish with a closing 72.

With his victory, Mullinax projects to jump from No. 33 to No. 4 on the tour’s money list, which locks up his PGA Tour card for next season. The Crimson Tide product’s previous best finish on the Tour was T-4, at this season’s Club Colombia Championship and the 2015 Stonebrae Classic.

J.T. Poston, who graduated from Western Carolina last spring, finished third at 11 under.

A pair of notables finished at T-6: Ollie Schniederjans and Jack Maguire. Schniederjans, an All-American at Georgia Tech, now has four straight finishes of T-13 or better, including a P-2. Maguire, who turned pro halfway through his junior year at Florida State last winter, now has top 10s in each of his first two Tour starts of the season.
