UCLA’s Bronte Law, Washington coach Mary Lou Mulflur lead Golfweek women’s postseason honors

Washington women’s coach Mary Lou Mulflur took her team to the top of college golf this season and was named Golfweek’s women’s college coache of the year.

Last year, Mulflur coached her Huskies to No. 1 in the nation before three players turned pro after the fall. Despite the losses, Washington won three more times in the spring and advanced to NCAA match play.

This year, Mulflur went a step further. With three new players in the lineup, the Huskies were a top-20 team all season before rallying at the NCAAs for the program’s first national title

“Last year was much more difficult just because of players leaving to turn pro,” said Mulflur, who repeated as coach of the year. “The freshmen were extremely coachable and bought into what we were doing from Day 1.”

Mulflur called it the “most fun year of coaching I’ve ever had, and I certainly think that fun contributed to our success.”

Bronte Law, 21, of Stockport, England, won three times among eight top-10s in 10 starts as a junior and led the country with a 70.61 scoring average. She ended the spring at No. 1 in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings, meriting Golfweek Player of the Year.
