Marriott Golf seeks Audubon approval

As part of its “green” initiatives, Marriott Golf plans to have 34 of its courses in North America and the Caribbean become certified Audubon cooperative sanctuaries by the end of this year.

Among the courses targeted for this designation are Doral Golf Resort and Spa in Miami, Fla., Royal St. Kitts Golf Club in the British West Indies, and Shadow Ridge Golf Club in Palm Desert, Calif. Six Marriott Golf facilities in the company’s 62-course worldwide network already have earned the designation.

In order to achieve certification, a golf facility is required to demonstrate it is maintaining the highest degree of environmental quality in several areas, including environmental planning, wildlife and habitat management, outreach and education, chemical-use reduction and safety, water conservation and water quality management.

“Marriott Golf is proud to be part of the company’s broader green initiatives by supporting Audubon Certification,” Robert Waller, senior director of grounds for Marriott Golf, said in a release. “Our goal is to engage our guests and associates from around the world in this unique process and to further our commitment to promoting the game of golf in an eco-friendly way.”
