Puma has extended its push into golf, this time by signing PGA Tour player Jeff Overton, 24, to a multiyear footwear and apparel deal. Also, Callaway Golf will give away gas as part of a promotion.

As part of the agreement, the relationship was officially activated at The Players Championship, where Overton wore Puma’s Swing GTX golf shoe. Terms were undisclosed.

By signing with Puma, Overton joins a stable of international players that include 2006 U.S. Open winner Geoff Ogilvy, Johan Edfors, Hideto Tanihara and Erica Blasberg.

“As we continue to grow the Puma Golf business worldwide, it’s important to us to have a diverse and wide range of players as part of our player portfolio,” said Robert Philion, Puma’s business unit manager for golf.

Overton was an All-American and the 2005 Big Ten Conference Player of the Year at Indiana. He had a 3-1 record for the U.S. team in the ’03 Walker Cup. He posted two top-10 finishes as a PGA Tour rookie in 2006, and had three top-10 finishes last season, including a tie for second at the Wyndham Championship, while earning more than $1 million.
