Anthony Kim lands with IMG

Less than two months after terminating his agreement with Hambric Sports Management, Anthony Kim announced June 24 that he has signed a management agreement with IMG.

Kim notified player manager Rocky Hambric that he was ending their agreement seven months early in a May 6 letter just two days after the second-year Tour player won the Wachovia Championship, his first title, by five shots.

“Anthony is a very rare combination of youth, talent and marketability that will be great for the sport of golf for years to come,” said Clarke Jones, IMG’s senior vice president and global director for golf clients.

Kim is eighth on the U.S. Ryder Cup points list and 19th in the World Golf Ranking. Sources say Kim’s original two-year agreement with Nike Golf expires after this season, making the 23-year-old rising star one of the game’s most coveted endorsers.

“Their expertise in all areas of sports and entertainment marketing and management, and especially in golf, is second to none, and I’m looking forward to working with them,” Kim said in a statement.

Hambric, who endured a similar split with Charles Howell III in 2002, has filed a lawsuit in Dallas seeking damages.

“It does hurt,” Hambric said last month. “But we had no alternative than to protect our rights under the agreement.”
