Baylor sophomore Colton Williams shot 2-under 70 March 15 at Laredo (Texas) Country Club to complete a seven-shot victory at the Border Olympics.

Williams, No. 182 in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings, finished at 9-under 207. UTEP’s Roger Sloan (75) and Arkansas teammates Andrew Landry (70) and Sam Chavez (73) tied for second at 2 under par.

Williams held the 36-hole lead at last month’s Rice Intercollegiate, but left before the final round to attend the funeral of his swing coach and friend, Henry Richards.

“Colton had an outstanding week, and it’s good to see him win his first tournament,” Baylor head coach Greg Priest said. “You never know if you’re going to get (the chance to win) again, and he took advantage of it.”

Arkansas, No. 42 in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings, shot a final-round 291 to finish at 3-over 867 and beat No. 34 Lamar by five strokes.
