GOLFWEEK STAFFFlorida State won the first ACC Championship in program history Sunday, shooting a final-round 280 to win by three shots over Duke.
All five Seminoles shot even par or better in the final round, as the team overcame a one-shot deficit to the Blue Devils. Florida State finished at 26-under 838, while Duke was at (284) was at 841.
“This is a balanced team with good chemistry,” head coach Trey Jones said. “Our chemistry grows because we continue to get better. The more they put themselves in the position to win, the better they get.”
Three Florida State players finished in the top six, led by Jonas Blixt (69) and Matt Savage (71), who finished T-3 at 8-under 208. Freshman Drew Kittleson (70) finished T-6 at 6 under par.
Wake Forest senior Webb Simpson won the individual title, setting an tournament record with his 14-under 202 total. Simpson shot 68-68-66 to win by five shots over North Carolina’s Chase MacFarland.
“I’m really happy for Webb. That was an excellent, excellent win,” Wake Forest head coach Jerry Haas said. “He’s a wonderful senior leader. We’re going to miss him a lot.”
