GOLFWEEK STAFF

Charlotte, No. 6 in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings, won its third consecutive Atlantic-10 Championship with a 23-shot victory Sunday at Orange County National’s Panther Lake in Winter Garden, Fla.

The 49ers, who were tied for the lead after the first round, shot a final-round 285 to finish at 25-under 837. Dayton’s final-round 288 put it at 4 under par.

Charlotte played without Trevor Murphy, No. 170 in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings, who Monday qualified for the PGA Tour’s Wachovia Championship; Murphy shot 71-76 to miss the cut by just two shots.

The 49ers had three of the top five finishers. Corey Nagey shot a final-round 69 to finish at 10-under 206 and in second place. Jonas Enander Hedin was third at 9 under par after a final-round 71, while Stefan Wiedergruen (72) was T-5 at 5 under par.

Dayton junior Rob Chappell, No. 966 in Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings, won the individual title with an 11-under 205 total. Chappell made bogey on the first hole Sunday, but had five birdies and no bogeys the rest of the way to shoot a final-round 68. Chappell shot 64 in the first round.

Final scores with relation to par from the Atlantic-10 Championship, played May 2-4 at the par-72, 6,882-yard Orange County National (Panther Lake) in Winter Garden, Fla.:
