When: May 8-10
Where: Lincoln (Calif.) Hills Golf Course
Who: Four of the top 10 teams in the
Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings: USC (1), Arizona State (5), Oklahoma State (7) and Arkansas (9)
Scoop: When it comes to regional play, winning the 21-team event is similar to placing eighth – the only difference is your tee time at the finals might be a little better. But in the West, while team scores will be watched, most of the attention will be on the individual leaderboard.
Why? This field is loaded with star power. The past two NCAA individual champs are in this regional – USC’s Dewi Schreefel and Arkansas’ Stacy Lewis. In all, we will see 11 of the top 25 players in the
Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings.
Short shots: This regional could see several teams seeded outside the top 8 advance to the NCAA Championship. Teams seeded between 9 and 16 all rank between No. 30 and 45 in the
Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings.
Streak: Can Stanford, the No. 8 seed, make it 20 consecutive trips to the NCAA Championship? The Cardinal has the nation’s longest streak of appearances at the finals.
Who can crack the top 8?: When looking at this field’s teams, it would not be shocking to go as deep as the No. 19 seed when selecting teams that could finish in the top eight. The double-digit seeds most likely to advance are Conference USA champ Tulsa and Oregon.
Fun fact: There will be a front 11 and back 7 this week at the Lincoln Hills Golf Club. Due to the location of the 10th tee tournament officials decided to make the starting holes No. 1 and No. 12.
