GOLFWEEK STAFFUSC, UCLA and Duke will be the top seeds in the NCAA Division I Women’s Regionals May 8-10, the NCAA announced April 28.
USC, No. 1 in the
Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings, will headline the West Regional at Lincoln Hills Golf Club in Lincoln, Calif., forcing No. 2 UCLA to the Central Regional at the University of Texas Golf Club in Austin. Third-ranked Duke is the top-seeded team in the East Regional at the University of Georgia Golf Course in Athens. Men’s fields will be announced May 5.
Eight teams and two individuals from each of the 21-team regionals will advance to the NCAA Division I Women’s Championship May 20-23 at the University of New Mexico Championship Golf Course in Albuquerque.
The East and West regions each have four of the top 10 teams in the
Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings in their fields, while the Central has two. The East has the lowest combined rank among its top eight seeds (98), followed by the West (99) and Central (105).
The top 52 teams in the
Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings all made the postseason, as well as 11 lower-ranked teams that automatically qualified by winning their conference championships. No. 53 Augusta State was the highest-ranked team not to make the postseason.
Princeton’s Susannah Aboff, No. 62 in the
Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings, was the highest-ranked individual to be left out of a regional. Coastal Carolina’s Araceli Felgueroso, No. 184, was the lowest-ranked individual to earn one of nine individual berths to regionals. Twenty-one players not included in the postseason were ranked ahead of Felgueroso.
