Chella Choi lead a group of 32 players who advanced out of an LPGA sectional qualifying event Friday at Plantation Golf & Country Club in Venice, Fla.
Choi, an 18-year-old who has notched four top-10 finishes on the Duramed Futures Tour this year, closed with 69 to finish at 9-under 279, one shot better than Spain’s Beatriz Recari and Thailand’s Nontaya Srisawang.
Recari, 21, is a three-year member of the Ladies European Tour and posted two top-10 finishes in 2008, including a tie for third at the Finnair Ladies Masters.
Oklahoma State sophomore Jaclyn Sweeney, 19, finished fourth. She was one of three amateurs to advance to final stage. Should she earn her LPGA card at final stage in December,
Sweeney said she will turn professional.Other notables moving on to the final stage are former Michigan State star Sara Brown, USC graduate Paola Moreno and former Florida player Whitney Myers.
Those players who advanced will join the top 30 finishers from the sectional qualifying event played in September at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, Calif., at the LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Fla., Dec. 3-7.
Michelle Wie advanced to the final stage with a T-4 in Rancho Mirage.
