A look back: Trevor Immelman
GOLFWEEK STAFF

Master champion Trevor Immelman was one of the first internationals to come to America to play in this country’s most prestigious junior golf events.

He first arrived in the United States as 15-year-old, and it wasn’t long before he earned his first victory on American soil, beating Bubba Watson in the finals of the AJGA’s 1995 Rolex Junior Classic (now the Polo Golf Junior Classic).

“I’ve won numerous tournaments in South Africa,” Immelman said after his victory. “But nothing compares to winning the Rolex Junior Classic.”

The following year, Immelman won the Maxfli PGA Junior Championship, finished third at the Rolex Tournament of Champions, fourth at Junior Worlds and eighth at the AJGA Boys Junior Championship (now the HP Boys Junior Championship), and was named a first-team Rolex Junior All-American.

He finished off his final junior season with runner-up finishes at Junior Worlds and the U.S. Junior, where he lost to Jason Allred in the finals at Arnomink.
