Jennifer Rosales
was a little ray of sunshine, or more like a pint of sorbet this
weekend at the LPGA Wegman’s Classic. Thankfully, she brought the color
that is sometimes missing from the fairways, and did so in one
put-together look.
After
all the rain at Bethpage, and even more for the ladies on the LPGA this
past weekend, I personally was in need of some sunshine!
On the men’s side… I think there are mixed reviews about this guy’s look – Ryan Moore.
I like his uber-trendy look: skater shoes, fitted pants, sweater vests,
the occasional tie, and of course the short-billed hat. What I love
most about this guy is that he dresses himself.
We caught up
with him at the Players Championship this year and he told us that he
buys all of his own golf clothes and isn’t sponsored by any particular
apparel company. The day we spoke to him he was sporting a hat from
Buckle, pants from Urban Outfitters and a shirt from American Apparel.
He said that he loves to play in clothes that he feels comfortable in
and that he could see himself wearing day-to-day off the course. This
is a trend we could get used to, and love the accessibility and
affordability of the look.
And hey, you never know, perhaps we might even run into Moore the next time he’s shopping for his next tourney!
What do you think about these two player’s looks?!?
Are you a fan of one or both or neither? Let us know.
Roll out the red carpet and get your cameras ready because it’s time
for the one-and-only Gallery Awards. We’ve all seen and heard actors
and musicians pat themselves on the back and give each other ample
awards for best this and best that, so we figure we’ll join in the fun
and pat our players on the back not only for their valiant efforts at
battling Bethpage but also for all those who add a little spice to the
game with their LOOK!
We want you, The Gallery, to watch each day and keep tabs on who could
snag some of these awards, and e-mail us your votes. We are hoping for
a wide range of looks this week and we need your vote to help decide
who is going to win his first golden Oscar Grandstand Statue at this
year’s 1st Annual Gallery Awards.
The “Gallery Awards” categories:
• Best Dressed in a “Leading Role” (top 10 or whoever is leading after each round)
• Best “Supporting” Look (with a cause, for example, Phil with his pink ribbon or support for Ken Green)
• Best Look with a “Major” Accessory (hat, shoes, belt, hair…)
• Boldest Look (talking the talk, but isn’t walking the walk)
• Best Cutting Edge/Trendiest Look
• Best Look with the Game to Match (overall looker of the tournament)

U.S. Open: Rain gear anyone?
When people think of inclement weather at a major championship, they usually think of the Open.
The British Open that is.
This
week it’s not just the USGA toughening up the course, but Mother Nature
as well. Forget the deep rough, tight fairways and slick greens, she’s
adding length and lots of it to this already some 7,400-yard course.
To
say the least, the fashion scene at Bethpage has been dampened (no pun
intended). But we are definitely still interested in keeping a close
eye on what the players will be sporting in terms of rain gear. Will
it be a sea of black rain jackets and pants? Or will players continue
to make an effort at displaying their individual styles? We’ve seen a
bit of everything this morning, and under all those umbrellas we found
some soggy golfers.
All
the boys are gearing up for the wrath of Bethpage and doing it in
style. Here are a few of them in their trendy practice round outfits…
and not to mention the alarming number of white belts spotted!
This week on “The Look,” Ash and Ash take a close look into what it means to be stylish in professional golf.

Fashion Spotlight: Laura Ormson, Wear to Win
Calling all young ladies: There is finally a clothing line made
just for you. Laura Ormson, together with her mother, Cindy, have done
what a lot of girl golfers dream of doing one day (I know I did) in
making a golf clothing line specifically for young women.
IT ALL STARTED
when Ormson was playing junior golf. She said she often felt
uncomfortable, self-conscious and unfashionable – but who knew this
problem would turn into a great idea for a business one day?
Ormson launched her first Wear to Win line this week.
Although
she only will be a senior on the Wake Forest golf team this fall, she
is pouring her heart and soul into the line and continues to make
sacrifices that a normal 21-year-old might not experience.
Originally
from Granger, Ind., Ormson said she must remain extremely organized to
balance her time between school, college golf, friends and her newfound
passion, Wear to Win. She said Wake Forest, her hometown, family and
friends have all been a huge help in propelling this line to where it
is today and that she is thankful for all the guidance and support she
has received.
“We just do what we have to do to get it done,”
Ormson said, which is no exaggeration considering research for her big
idea only went into action about two years ago.
WHAT TO EXPECT:
Wear to Win is full of color, patterns, pleats, ruffles and – what we
think is most important – is made of durable, moisture-wicking material
that is both sporty and practical. Three different styles of skorts –
the Jessica, the Annie and the Sandie – each will have varying colors
and styles for mixing and matching. Laura, Cindy and their
Chicago-based designer ensured that the clothing will be flattering for
all sizes and body types (sizes will run 0-16), durable for all types
of weather, appropriate for some of those strict dress code regulations
and also convenient for golfers with large, strategically-placed
pockets and low-wrinkle material. The line also will include two
sleeveless shirts (black and white to start) made of moisture-wicking
mesh featuring rouching, ruffled sleeves and golf club zippers.
Additions to the line will continue with more shirts, vests, rain gear,
skort designs and rhinestone belts by the end of the summer. WEB SITE:www.weartowin.com
for this brand new clothing line. The site also includes blogs,
articles, book recommendations and player profiles, all targeted toward
the junior girl golfer.
Apart from all these records, pure shots, and crisp Tiger-esque
moments resurfacing and giving us those warm and cozy feelings that we
were all patiently waiting for again... HOW ABOUT THE OUTFITS?
Is it just me or is Nike stepping it up a notch?
Or,
is Tiger getting fitter? Or, are all these flawless golf shots getting
to my head? I DON’T THINK SO… Nike is stepping it up and just in time
for TIGER SEASON!
More on this soon, especially that red shirt you see below, in particular...
Belt color isn’t the only focus around the waist these days… now
it’s the buckle that seals the deal. Buckles have been covered with
everything from names, initials to logos; some buckles are so blinged
out they carry price tags of over $25,000 – wow, what recession?!
Despite
some astronomical price tags, snazzy belt buckle are the perfect
accessory to add to an otherwise stale outfit. Anthony Kim (see above)
has made his trademark with the jeweled-out “AK” buckle and now it’s
becoming a big trend on the college level (see Rickie Fowler’s Oklahoma
State buckle below.)
What we want to know is where are all these belts coming from…
A few front-runners in the ‘customization’ of belt buckles are companies such as Bettinardi, 59 Belts and Elevee.
We’ve
obviously seen other big belt buckles around the tours from companies
like J. Lindeberg, Hugo Boss and Adidas, but what’s special about these
other companies is that they make the belt exclusively for you, exactly
how you want them. You could literally be the only one in the world
with a belt buckle like yours.
There
does, however, seem to be more to this story… It’s time for
investigation mode, check back soon for more on these companies…
We have to give the nod of Look of the Week to all those who participated in the ‘Pink Out’ Saturday at Colonial. The
PGA Tour Wives Association got its message out and it was clear that
the golf world wanted to show its support of Amy Mickelson and all
those affected by breast cancer. (See pics of Ian Poulter and David
Feherty below.)
Amy let the world know that she felt the love
and support, writing a thank you to all those who were involved on
philmickelson.com.
“Today’s ‘Pink Out’ will help all people,
whether they’re fighting breast cancer or helping a loved one, know
that they are not alone,” said Amy, who was home watching the Colonial
broadcast.
Showing
support through colors, ribbons or bracelets has turned into quite the
fashion staple; we believe and hope that this won’t be the last time we
see this kind of support!

The only other look worth mentioning was when Steve Stricker
hoisted up his trophy in that red tartan jacket… It definitely added
some spice to the tournament, especially in a sea of regular (plain)
looking golf outfits – no fun for us! Our thanks go to all those
tournaments that add a little extra flair in their celebrations.
Throughout the year there are 12 or so tournaments that give more than a big trophy and a nice chunk of change
– they give a little wardrobe decoration for the player to celebrate
in. Now, some are obviously more sought after (need I even mention the
green jacket?); some are very classy and simple and then there are
those with a little more personality.
There are a few
tournaments out there that add a fun twist to their winner’s
celebration; the Viking Classic in Madison, Miss. has its winner hoist
up the trophy in a chef’s coat and at the Zurich Classic in New
Orleans, the winner celebrate in a sash, decked out Cajun style. These
celebratory fashion statements might not make everyone’s radar but they
definitely stick out in our minds.
Of
course, one thing is for certain: we know that the players who are
talented enough to celebrate are more that happy to don whatever the
tournament puts them in, as long as they are crowned the champion.
We want to know everything you want to know about golf fashion!
We want to know what you would ask the players if you were in our
spikes :), or who you think dressed the best or worst on the fairways
each week?!
Feel free to email Ash or Ash and get your questions answered... We
might answer your questions in a blog or feature it in our weekly show, “The
Look!”
Keep your fashion in the fairway,
Ash & Ash ;)

For Amy, think Pink...
Wearing
pink Sunday at the Byron Nelson wasn’t intended to be just any old
fashion statement; it was for a very specific and heartfelt reason. As
most of you have heard or read, Amy Mickelson was diagnosed with breast
cancer last week. As a result, Phil indefinitely suspended his play on
Tour to ensure he will be with her through this trying time.
Sabbatini
not only wore this pink shirt to show his support for Amy, Phil and
their entire family, but he and his wife made pink ribbons for players
to wear in honor of Amy and all those battling this terrible disease.
Also,
from across the pond J.D. made it a point to wear pink during the final
round of the BMW PGA Championship. He told the media that he has had
some close friends and family affected by this disease and he wanted to
let Amy and Phil know that he is thinking about them, too.
Wearing
pink ribbons, pink shirts, or pink anything has definitely become the
statement to make in order to show support of those who battle this
disease. So much so, that the Tour Wives Association had declared a
“Pink Out” this week during the third round of the Colonial, where
Mickelson would have been defending his title. The wives association
is asking all players, wives, volunteers and spectators to participate
in showing Amy their support.
We will definitely be in our
pink this Saturday and we want Amy and the Mickelson family to know
they are in our thoughts and prayers.
• Historically, we have all come to realize that the Blonde and Brunette have always had a hidden rivalry.
The media have always portrayed these two as secret bitter enemies;
whether it is Angelina and Jen, Marilyn and Audrey, or Betty and
Veronica, there always seems to be a competition. Agreed?
So,
with all due respect, we believe it is our duty to continue the
tradition and add a little more fuel to this fire by telling you about
the hottest competition to hit the fairways.
Just when we
thought that blondes had more fun and all jaws were dropped at the
Natalie Gulbis’ of the ladies tour, a new girl hits Golfweeker’s by storm and her long luscious locks are something to write home about.
Say hello to Maria Verchenova!
We know, we know...
she kind of sounds a tad like the tennis player Maria Sharapova, and
you’re right! Verchenova is yet another beautiful Russian phenom to hit
the sports world by storm; and we thank our fellow Soviet’s everyday
for it.
Verchenova is the first Russian to become a full-time
member of the Ladies European Tour, her best finish a T-5 at last
year’s Tenerife Ladies Open – and we expect to see a lot more from
this Russian beauty.
So
to conclude our theory – blondes don’t just get to have all the fun.
However, the competition is on and we can wait to keep you in the loop!
• Paula & Anna: Two of the LPGA’s hottest fashionistas were dazzling fans with their stylish trends last week at the Sybase Classic.
Although Anna Rawson missed the cut, she turned heads once again with her look Friday, sporting an adorable J. Lindeburg Fine Twill Stretch skirt
from their European Collection, an oversized visor and designer
sunglasses. Anna makes this look so chic that we are tempted to try it
ourselves!
Paula Creamer
looked and played like a million bucks. Eye-catching sums up her look
for the week, from the pleated skirt on Friday to the head-to-toe pink
on Sunday, she was definitely getting attention for more than just her
game.
• Picture this…
So
we know that Paula can pull off the top-to-bottom pink – but could it
work for someone like Tiger? Imagine Woods, taking his love, or
superstition, for Sunday red to a whole new level… Would we dig it?
• Quote of the week: “Gotta be the pants!” (Said by a member of the gallery as Ian Poulter teed off on No. 18 Saturday at TPC Sawgrass).
• When 54-hole leader Alex Cejka
showed up Sunday at the Players Championship, he definitely made a
statement without saying a word... Despite his five-shot lead, Cejka
definitely felt the heat that comes along with this type of Sunday
afternoon pressure – and playing with Tiger doesn’t help matters either!
We think he felt the heat more than he needed to though;
did no one warn him that the temperature was going to be nearing the
100 mark? Although he looked stylish in this top-to-bottom black
outfit, even NBC commentators were questioning his choice in threads.
Our advice to Cejka, who said he actually would have worn Tiger-esque
Sunday Red if he’d packed that color shirt: Next time you have a
five-shot lead on the PGA Tour, don’t put the heat on yourself, wear
white!!!
• While Cejka was burning up in black (and not in the right way), Henrik Stenson had white working well for him Sunday at Sawgrass.
He kept it cool and classy in white Hugo Boss pants and this white and
baby blue Hugo Boss shirt; he’s got the game and the looks, so
hopefully we’ll be seeing more and more from Mr. Striptease.
• Tiger was sporting the mock turtleneck again yesterday. Although he
pulls the look off, we don’t recommend this look for the average
(pipe-less) golfer... Tiger has a mysterious way of making anything he
puts on look crisp and classic and fit like a glove. If only we could
figure out what his secret is...
• Ian Poulter and his IJP clothing line are definitely getting the praise it deserves.
Poulter seemed to appreciate the support from his fans with a little
thumbs up; we hope he knows that we give him two thumbs up on the pink
pants AND his trendsetting ways.
• Paula Creamer’s back and sporting the white belt!
Paula was playing at the World Ladies Championship Salonpas Cup just
northeast of Tokyo this past weekend where she looked cute in her usual
Sunday pink. The white belt gave it that trendy retro look and she even
matched the belt buckle to her pink attire. Even though the hat is not
our favorite, she gets a mention because she is sticking with one of
the top trends in golf.

• Click play below to watch a sneak peak of our new show “The Look.”
• Ben Crane is leading with both his scores and his style!
• Villegas wasn’t just posing because he hit a great shot, it’s
probably also because of the great outfit he is wearing today during
the second round of the Player's Championship.
•
It’s too hot for grey, no matter who you are. Mr. Burberry doesn't
usually make fashion pitfalls like this one, so we know redemption is
near.
• Mr. Loud Mouth, or should we say loud pants, was at it again during the second round of the BMW Italian Open...
