LochenHeath joins Grand lineup

Acme, Mich.: Grand Traverse Resort and Spa will operate The Club at LochenHeath as a public course in 2008.

LochenHeath, a Steve Smyers design owned by Pinnacle Development Group of Scottsdale, Ariz., opened as a public course in 2001 and went private in 2004. The course, part of a residential development, is located in Williamsburg, Mich., just north of Grand Traverse.

The resort will staff and manage the LochenHeath course pro shop and retain all revenues. Green fees at LochenHeath will be the same as they are at Grand Traverse’s Bear and Wolverine courses – $80 weekdays and $95 weekends for nonguests. The green fee is $10 less every day for resort guests.

Brewster, Mass.: Ocean Edge Resort & Club on Cape Cod opened its golf course following an $8.5 million redesign by Nicklaus Design. The course is open for play by hotel guests and club members.

The work included renovations to the golf course and also the Linx Clubhouse, where locker rooms were expanded, a members-only lounge was added and additional activity space was created for members. Renovations to the golf operations were part of an $18.5 million expansion at Ocean Edge.

Owasso, Okla.:
Robert Trent Jones II Golf Course Architects will design The Patriot, part of a residential community called Stone Canyon. The Patriot, which will serve as the home course of the Folds of Honor Foundation (formerly the Fallen Heroes Foundation), is scheduled to open July 4, 2009.

The project was conceived by Daniel J. Rooney, a PGA member from Stillwater, Okla., and an F-16 pilot in the Oklahoma Air National Guard’s 125th Fighter Squadron. The course and foundation are intended as a means to support children of soldiers killed in the Iraq war. Rooney has served two tours in Iraq.

Orlando, Fla.: Marriott Golf this month kicked off its International Family Golf Festival at 34 of the properties it manages.

Marriott Golf properties have set aside specific dates when families can visit, receive free golf instruction and engage in other golf-related activities. After 3 p.m., parents and children can play golf for free as part of Marriott Golf’s Kids Golf-4-Free program.

Marriott Golf manages 61 golf courses at 45 locations in 13 countries.

Seaview Resort & Spa opened the John Jacobs/Shelby Futch Golf Academy, where PGA teaching professional John Kajfasz will serve as the director of instruction.

Elsewhere: Griffin Gate Golf Club, a Lexington, Ky., property operated by Marriott Golf, was certified through the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program. . . . PGA professional Adam Scribner has been hired as lead instructor at Crystal Mountain Golf Schools’ Junior Golf Academy in Thompsonville, Mich. . . . Joe Wisocki IV was hired as general manager of Ridge Creek Dinuba Golf Club, which is scheduled to open in July in Dinuba, Calif., 30 miles south of Fresno. Wisocki previously worked at Chambers Bay in University Place, Wash. Ridge Creek, like Chambers Bay, is managed by KemperSports. . . . The Westin Roco Ki Beach & Golf Resort in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, hired Sergio Poo as director of golf operations.
