James takes long route in Champions Q-School (Nov. 6): Gerry James has no problem with his driving distance. At the first stage of Champions Tour Q-School, the former pro wrestler proved the rest of his game has the necessary brawn as well.

Joh wins Futures Tour qualifying (Nov. 6): Former UCLA standout Tiffany Joh finished Futures Tour qualifying at the head of the pack, with Danielle Mills, a recent Elon graduate, coming in one shot back. Several other notable collegiate players also were in the field.

FIRST STAGE RECAPS (Oct. 20-30):

Malinowski wins in Lantana (Nov. 1): Nick Malinowski walked away with a three-shot victory at first-stage PGA Tour qualifying school in Lantana, Texas Sunday. A resident of nearby Frisco, Texas, Malinowski was at 16-under 272 at the Lantana Golf Club. Tony Finau will miss out on the second stage of qualifying after a T-59 finish at 4-over 292.

Lovemark, Tringale advance from Pinewild (Oct. 30): Andy Bare went 8 under in his first three rounds at the first stage of PGA Tour qualifying school, then sealed the win with a final-round 70. Jamie Lovemark fell to 77 in the final round, but still qualified easily for the second stage, as did Cameron Tringale.

Bradley bulldozes Valdosta field (Oct. 30): Keegan Bradley had a 7-shot lead going into the final round of first-stage PGA Tour qualifying school at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club in Valdosta, Ga., and by the time the dust cleared, the former St. John's star had grabbed the top spot with eight shots to spare. Mike Van Sickle also advanced after a final-round 67.

Potter wins Lakeland qualifier, Tryon finishes fourth (Oct. 30): Hooters Tour phenom Ted Potter proved he could take it to the next level Friday with his win at first-stage PGA Tour qualifying school at Grasslands Golf and Country Club. Ty Tryon, who was pegged an up-and-coming star as a teenager, also qualified for the second stage.

Woltman advances easily from Santee (Oct. 30): Brian Guetz turned in the low score for first-stage PGA Tour qualifying at Carlton Oaks Country Club, but Dan Woltman also easily advanced to the second stage.

Anderson wins narrowly at San Juan Oaks (Oct. 30): Stuart Anderson closed with 67s to win first-stage PGA Tour qualifying in Hollister, Calif. Richard Lee and Kevin Chappell weren't far behind at the San Juan Oaks Golf Club.

Big Friday looms for Tour Q-Schoolers (Oct. 29): Keegan Bradley watched his friend, roommate, and former high school teammate, Jon Curran, ace his first-stage PGA Tour qualifying school test last week. Now he’s on the verge of one-upping his pal.

Fujikawa out early; Compton, Haas Jr. advance (Oct. 24): Biggest stories of the first stage of PGA Tour Q-school? More often than not, they’re about the guys who flunk out early. Case in point: Eighteen-year-old Tadd Fujikawa, who closed in 74-76.

Danny Lee, big names drop out of Q-School early (Oct. 23): Two summers ago, Danny Lee dominated the amateur golf circuit. Friday, he shot a final-round 76 and failed to make it through the first stage of PGA Tour Qualifying.

I'm rooting for Brian Stuard in the final qualifying. He's from my home town. Talk about bad luck. He lost out in the last round of Q school last year, then lost out (finished 26th) in the Nationwide rankings this year, because of a bad first round in the tour's last tournament. go brian!
