Lorena Ochoa withdrew from the Ginn Tribute hosted by Annika on Tuesday because of an illness in her family.

“I am very sorry to have to withdraw from the Ginn Tribute, but my uncle is very ill,” Ochoa said in a statement. “I need to be with my uncle and my family right now.”

Annika Sorenstam, who also serves as the tournament host, supported Ochoa’s decision.

“She is a tremendous ambassador for our game and we will miss her this week,” Sorenstam said. “That being said, family comes first and I know she has a very close family. I respect and support her decision and wish them the best.”

Said tournament director Becky Newell, “We understand that family is the priority, and the tournament realizes she needs to be with them at this time. Our prayers are with her family.”

Ochoa, the No. 1 player in the world, lost in a playoff to Nicole Castrale at last year’s event.

She has won six of nine events this year and is No. 1 on the money list with $1,838,616.
