Senior WriterGRAND BLANC, Mich. – Kenny Perry is skipping another major.
Perry, who did not attempt to qualify for the U.S. Open, confirmed that he will skip the British Open to play in the Greater Milwaukee Open in his attempt to make this year’s Ryder Cup in his home state of Kentucky.
“I’ve won Milwaukee, and I’ve top-10ed it there the last 12 years in a row and love that tournament,” said Perry, No. 6 in the U.S. Ryder Cup standings. “I’ll play the British next year.”
Perry has made 16 consecutive cuts, posting four top-10s and nine top-25s in that span, including a victory at Memorial and playoff loss to Ryuji Imada at the AT&T Classic.
Perry skipped U.S. Open qualifying because he did not want to play 36 holes in one day and had played seven consecutive weeks leading into the Open.
The top nine players in the U.S. Ryder Cup standings will make the team because Tiger Woods will miss the event after knee surgery. Paul Azinger will have four captains’ selections.
