Japan Tour's teen champ to turn pro
GOLFWEEK STAFF

Ryo Ishikawa, who won a Japan Tour event last year as a 15-year-old amateur, will turn pro. Ishikawa will make an official announcement Thursday at a Tokyo hotel, according to an article in the Daily Yomiuri.

Ishikawa, now 16, will play his first tournament as a pro at a British Open qualifier Feb. 5 in Sydney.

Ishikawa made the cut in six of eight pro tournaments last year. He is exempt until the end of the 2009 season because of his victory at the Munsingwear KSB Cup.

Ishikawa’s father, Katsumi, has quit his job at a bank to start a management company for his son, according to the Daily Yomiuri.
