When: Wednesday-Sunday
Where: LPGA International, Legends and Champions courses (Daytona Beach, Fla.)
The skinny: Players to watch include former Georgia standout Taylor Leon, South African hotshot Ashleigh Simon and Anna Rawson, a professional model from Australia who put in her dues on the Ladies European Tour.
There are several USGA champions still looking to make their mark as professionals including Jane Park, Virada Nirapathpongporn, Beth Bauer, Meredith Duncan, Becky Lucidi, Yani Tseng, Sukjin Lee Wuesthoff, Lisa Ferrero, and Kelli Kuehne.
Bauer, the 2002 LPGA Rookie of the Year, played in three tour events last season, missing the cut twice. She competed in nine events on the Duramed Futures Tour in 2007 and made $3,450. It’s a far cry from the Florida phenom who won 17 AJGA events and led Duke to the 1999 NCAA Championship as freshman.
Perhaps this is the year she turns things around.
Players play both the Legends and Champions Courses twice before a cut is made after 72 holes to the top 70 and ties. The top 17 players receive their cards for 2008 while the next 35 and ties earn non-exempt status.
