So I can understand why golf fans and media were disappointed with Superstar Attendance Figures (SAF) the first two weeks of the PGA Tour season.
But I have absolutely no idea why the “Tiger Come Back! I am Nothing Without You!” headlines continued this week at the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic, which tournament organizers billed as “Golf’s Best Celebrity Pro-Am Event.”
Here’s a sampling:
• “Top pros giving Bob Hope Classic the cold shoulder”
• “Golf stars aren’t out for Bob Hope Chrysler Classic”
• “Top pros give Bob Hope a miss”
And, my favorite...
• “I’d rather be in Abu Dhabi”
What the heck is everyone talking about?
•
Colin Montgomerie was there.

I know what you’re thinking here: You’re just taking pictures from this week’s celebrity field and matching them up with their professional golfer look-a-likes.
Look: I would do anything for golf, but I won’t do that.
Hey, does anyone smell Meat Loaf?
•
Gary Player was there.

So the Black Knight was looking a little rough around the edges. Whatever. How do you know he wasn’t up all night partying with Alice Cooper?
•
Luke Donald was there.

Someone told me they heard Donald singing Michael Bolton’s “When a Man Loves a Woman” before hitting his tee shot on the 12th hole.
So what’s the problem? Donald also lists “art” as a special interest in the PGA Tour media guide.
•
Miguel Angel Jimenez was there.

Don’t even try to tell me that’s Kenny G. There’s only room for one ponytail in golf.
•
Scott Simpson was there.

And the 1987 U.S. Open Champion is looking great! I can only picture him opposite Luke Wilson in “Old School 2.” (Nice 'staches, boys.)
•
Ernie Els wasn’t there, but his headcover was.
Note to Kevin Nealon: Please forward to “Saturday Night Live.”
•
And, by golly, Ben Hogan was there!

So you think comparing Hogan to Carson Daly is sacrilegious?
How ‘bout you go talk to the people who let Bob Hope’s tournament become “B” list.
